David A. Jansen
(Lt. Pierce) in Mr. Monk is Underwater
|
David
A. Jansen guest stars in "Mr.
Monk is Underwater" as the
unfortunate victim killed on the
submarine.
Mr.
Jansen began his film career as
a doorman in the 1997 Laurence
Fishburne film Hoodlum
which coincidentally co-starred
William
Atherton who plays the murderous
sub captain in "Underwater".
David recently completed filming
on the yet to be released Rob
Schneider project, The
Chosen One also starring Holland
Taylor (Natalie's mother, Peggy
Davenport). He plays a doorman.
You may also recognize him from
The
Tonight Show where he made a
few appearances in 2004-2005 as
various characters.

On
Getting the Part
There were a few of us that
had an interview with director
Paris
Barclay to play "the
dead guy". It was a great
experience and I never worked
with any of the leads. It
was just Bill [William
Atherton] and Casper [Casper
Van Dien] that I worked
with.

Filming
the Flashback Scenes
In regards to the flash
back scenes, the first one
we shot was when the sub
hit a mountain. In that
scene after we get jolted
and I come back to the bridge
and I start to ask Bill
what the heck happened.
I heard from someone's ear
piece to have someone tell
me NOT to speak, which really
sucks because it's easier
to act and react to what
is being said rather then
pantomime. Didn't feel right.
The second day was the map
switching, I didn't even
try to say anything to Bill
that day (while we were
shooting).

Filming
the Murder Scenes
The third day was
death day. We first shot
the death scene which was
a little difficult. I had
to keep still in the same
spot on the hard, cold floor
with all the fake blood
in my hair. It was pretty
sticky when I had to get
up.
|
|
LOL,
It was also the first time
I played a dead person and
it was harder then I expected.
To hold my breath, keep my
eyes open (while they were
blowing smoke in my face)
and have people touching me,
while all staying still. It
was challenging. |
What
was in the vodka bottle?
If I had been drinking
real vodka I would have
been passed out on the floor
from drinking too much!
We must have done at least
5-7 takes of me drinking.
I even had to come back
to shoot some insert shots.
On the third day of my shooting
they only had the gun to
the back of my head.
|

|
|

|
I even thought that was odd
and I should have said something.
Like I said they only had
the gun to the back of my
head and all my wounds were
on my right forehead. On the
insert shots they had the
gun coming from the back of
my head then move around to
my right forehead.
Where were your scenes filmed?
|
|
We
filmed the bridge scene on
a stage in North Hollywood
California. The other submarine
scenes were done on the Paramount
stages. |

little interview is courtesy
of Goodbyegirl (as well as
David A. Jansen.) She wishes
to remain somewhat anonymous.
All I really know about her
is that she knows a lot of
Monk trivia and she's English
and presumably she's female.
So I imagine her something... |
|
like this...
|
or
maybe this... |
or
this... |
or
even this. |
| ...but I'm
probably way off base. |
